“Homage to Gurudev”

“HOMAGE TO GURUDEV : Artists as Teachers”

National Camp and workshop – Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath

26th – 31st Decemeber 2011

“Homage to Gurudev” is an Artist Camp organized by Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath to recognise the contribution of teachers to the continuing development of art practices, the building of art institutions, and relevant movements pertaining to the arts in our country. The title seeks to remember the passion for teaching that drove the life of the famous Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore whose 150th birth anniversary is being celebrated this year. The camp will also acknowledge the individual achievements of each participant as an artist in their own right.

The program’s participants include artists from all over the country, practicing diverse forms of art – from painting to sculpture, traditional arts to new-media and printmaking – all of them are either currently teachers, or have been in the profession in the past. The teaching faculty at the BVA and MVA courses at Chitrakala Parishath will also be active participants. The weeklong camp is set to become a platform for the exchange of information, the sharing of insights and experiences, and it gives the artists uninterrupted time to create works of art. These works will be presented in an exhibition that will be inaugurated on the 31st of December, at the Art Complex at the Parishath.
